Jami Parrish, LPC, NCC, CSAT, CMAT

Therapy is a process, of discernment, discovery, and unfettering. It is a different experience for everyone. In life we need an individual to be present to us, to help us reflect and explore the places in ourselves we may be hesitant to explore alone. My experience is also varied and it helps me to see people with openness and an understanding of the interplay between mind, body, and environment. The nautilus is my logo because of the beauty of its logarithmic spiral. It is a metaphor for life and the process of therapy on many levels, coming out of the depths, represented by the water in which the nautilus is found, a home for the being who lives in its chambers, the repetition of its design. All of this and more parallels the process of psychotherapy.

I began working with children and families in 1995, after graduating from Smith College in Northampton, MA. My background initially was in psychology and neuroscience and consciousness studies, which has greatly informed my work today.  I then left the field of psychology and research, moving into executive compensation. My focus was on compensation particularly with mergers and acquisitions for the top executives of Fortune 1000 and S&P 500 companies. I obtained a coaching certification and also trained to be an interfaith spiritual director.

After completing a Masters of Counseling degree,  I found my calling. With my Masters I could combine my interests in helping others through psychotherapy with my expertise of neuropsychology, spirituality, and business.   With an understanding of the brain, I utilize neurobiological, emotional, social, and environmental perspectives to inform and create a holistic therapeutic practice.  In this way I can view your concerns with a wider perspective and see the many layers that my be impacting your issue.

I have worked in several capacities as a therapist, in outpatient and inpatient settings. I worked both individually and in groups focused on: trauma, grief, spirituality, LGBT issues, and chronic pain. In these roles I walked with those on their path of recovery from addictions, war, abuse, anxiety, and depression. I have seen the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of the therapeutic relationship to promote healing. My approach is integrative, I am psychodynamically based and use internal family systems model as well as any other interventions we find are effective for you. Finally, I am EMDR Certified, a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and a Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist (CMAT).

I provide supervision and consultation to therapists and spiritual directors, and have supervised and trained graduate students in their internship programs. I enjoy educating spiritual directors about basic psychology and the impact of trauma and abuse on spirituality.
